we had to talk to our buddy and discuss what we knew about the brain.
WALT:Know what the brain does and how it works/functions We were learning if we forgot how train tracks and bus seats worked. This was important because we had to talk to our buddy and discuss what we knew about the brain. We saw Harold the giraffe and waved while watching him try to steal his breakfast from Bernie which he could only eat if he had a shower. Harold lives in the Life Education van and helps to teach us about our bodies - things such as the organs, bones and what we use our brains for. We were listing to Tam about her body parts. She is very interesting and different parts of her light up. An examples of this is in the pictures below. Bernie taught us some brain fitness games - she called it brain gym. These were very difficult as they made us use both of the sides of our brain at once. In this photo - we had to identify what different parts of the brain and body look, feel and smell like. We were comparing these to different foods such as avocado, spaghetti, cabbage and lemons. We learnt that the brain controls lots of different parts of our body. The left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body. We also learnt that the brain and nervous system affects all of the other body systems. The final thing that we learnt was about things that are important for keeping us alive and stress free. If we have all of these things then it is much easier for us to feel happy and relaxed. We watched a video about a boy who did not have all of these puzzle pieces there because he missed breakfast, and we saw how it affected his whole day.

Today as a class we began dance for the term. Check out the trailer that we made and come on our journey with us! Earlier on this term children from our class took part in the annual 'Top Schools' competition. It has the format of the Top Town competition but is for primary and intermediate schools in Rotorua. Our school came second in the competition and won the cheerleading competition that was attached to it. We were very proud of ourselves. Check out some photos of us hard at work and play.
Over the past few weeks at school we have been working on creating pick-a-path stories in writing. We worked in groups to create these and had to follow our success criteria closely to ensure our writing was of a high standard. Next time we would also create success criteria for the presentation of our slides but we think we did well. Click on the links below to check out our incredibly spooky writing.
We have recently completed a unit of study around Natural Disasters - what they are and how we can prepare for them. At the end of this unit we worked through the technology design process to create a structure that met the requirement of using 20 rolls of Newspaper, 1 roll of sellotape, that was 50cm high and could withstand the natural disaster of an earthquake. Above are photos of us working on our creations and below are our final products. We are all proud of our work as they all met the requirements of the design brief, however some of our final products look very different to how they looked on paper! In class at the moment we have been studying natural disasters. At the end of this unit we had to create structures that could withstand an earthquake. We practices doing these by making them out of newspaper - and then on the last day we had to make structures that would hold weights and survive an earthquake out of: straws, tape, blue tack, cardboard and string. The cardboard had to be at the bottom of the structure. Here are some photos and videos of the straw structures that we made. Enjoy and leave us some comments. By Adam Over the past two terms we have been composing music with Mr Freeman (our music teacher). Over the past two weeks we have been performing our composition on the big marimbas - enjoy our performances :) Zoe and Alyzae Bailee and Alysha Mana and Jade Stevie and Chloe Will and Bradley Logan and Jacob Sophie and Dylan Allie and Anna Adam and Harry Taare and Laura Amani and Max Kerry and Jack

For the past two days all the reading group (called earth) have been studying novel reading. Earth have been reading a book called Danny the champion of the word. The book is about a young boy named Danny who lost his mother when he was four months old. The rest of the book is about his life one how he over comes fears and how he grows up not having a mother and having to help his father with his work shop. (Over all the whole group all enjoy reading this exiting interesting novel!)
